The newest member of our classroom.
This was a caterpillar that we watched grow last fall. It grew, made a chrysalis, and then hibernated. Last week he hatched and we released him in the crepe myrtle tree outside.

Before Winter break

I forgot to post this. The week before winter break we studied heat. We took a solid, changed it to a liquid, and then cooled it back into a solid. We recycled old broken crayons. We heated them up to the melting point (212 degress) and poured them into a heart mold. Then we cooled the liquid back down in the frig to make a new solid. The result was chocolate colored heart crayons:)

We are having a good week so far. We have used a laser to examine light.  We used powder to trace the laser's path. Together we discussed the importance of light, and how it reflects, bend, and is absorbed. We have also started a two week unit on sun, moon, and stars. I hope your child is enjoying our class as much as I am.

I am so excited about our new blog! I hope that it will help you feel more connected to our classroom and show that we are doing our best to prepare for third grade. I enjoy working with each child. They are all special in their own little way. I have enjoyed watching them grow into mature second graders.  They have all come a long way since the beginning of the year and I look forward to the rest of the school year.  A few important dates coming up are...
January 16th: MLK Jr. holiday. No school.
January 18th: Ben Roy the science guy will visit. If you haven't turned in your $4.00 please do so asap.
January 23rd: Nutrition Night at 6:00 at the school
January 25th: 100th day of school! Can you believe it!
January 27th: FISH celebration. Ask your child about the FISH characteristics they have been learning and trying to achieve.
